Education and Outreach

There are more than 100,000 immigrants in DC, and 1 in 6 workers in DC is an immigrant.

Our community-driven outreach and education initiatives seek to inform DC’s immigrant communities about important worker rights, constitutional rights, student rights, and more.

  • Many immigrants face a multitude of barriers to accessing jobs including limited access to legal employment, limited visa options, and lack of social networks. This leads immigrants to take on informal employment which leaves them vulnerable to wage theft, abuse, and workforce exploitation. Undocumented workers in DC have workers rights protections including the right to be paid fairly, the right to a safe work environment, and protection against workplace discrimination but many may be unaware of their rights.

MLOV is empowering immigrants in DC by providing culturally appropriate education on workers rights laws in DC via workshops, flyers, hazard guidance, referrals to legal representation, and consultations.

  • In partnership with our community outreach team, made up of 12 MLOV-trained immigrant community members, in 2025 we Distributed approximately 12,000 constitutional KYR flyers and over 400 emergency family plans in the community.

In 2025, we also provided 21 KYR workshops on immigrant rights, reaching over 750 attendees.

  • As part of the DC 2050 planning process, MLOV will convene multilingual focus groups with non-English or limited-English speakers to ensure that diverse voices and perspectives are meaningfully included. MLOV will also prioritize engaging immigrant youth through dedicated listening sessions and a youth leadership advisory council, recognizing their vital role in shaping the District’s future. Through these efforts, MLOV will create accessible and welcoming spaces for the community to inform the DC 2050 planning process by sharing their lived experiences.
