Introduction

There are more than 100,000 immigrants in DC, and 1 in 6 workers in DC is an immigrant. Many immigrants face a multitude of barriers to accessing jobs including limited access to legal employment, limited visa options, and lack of social networks. This leads immigrants to take on informal employment which leaves them vulnerable to wage theft, abuse, and workforce exploitation. Undocumented workers in DC have workers rights protections including the right to be paid fairly, the right to a safe work environment, and protection against workplace discrimination but many may be unaware of their rights.

MLOV is empowering immigrants in DC by providing culturally appropriate education on workers rights laws in DC via workshops, flyers, hazard guidance, referrals to legal representation, and consultations.
